Case Study: Transforming a Small Business with Squarespace

When Luna & Bloom, a holistic wellness brand, first approached us, they had passion, a loyal client baseβ€”and a digital presence that didn’t reflect any of it. Their website was outdated, hard to navigate, and wasn’t showing up in search results. In just under 3 weeks, we helped them go from scattered ideas to a fully functioning Squarespace site that now brings in consistent leads and builds real trust with new visitors.

---

The Challenge: A Website That Was Holding Them Back

Luna & Bloom were using an outdated Wix template that hadn’t been updated in years. Their brand identityβ€”rooted in calm, healing, and natural livingβ€”wasn't coming through visually or in their messaging. Worse, their site was missing the basics:

It wasn’t mobile responsive.

They had no on-page SEO.

There was no clear call-to-action guiding visitors.

The design was cluttered and inconsistent.

This meant lost opportunities, missed client inquiries, and a general lack of confidence in sharing their link.

---

Our Strategy: Bringing Clarity, Confidence, and Conversion

We started with a deep dive into their brand values and target audience. From there, we created a streamlined website strategy built on Squarespace using one of our custom templatesβ€”designed specifically for wellness professionals.

Here’s what we focused on:

Clear Brand Messaging: We refined their copy to speak directly to their ideal client. Visitors now immediately understand what Luna & Bloom offers and who it’s for.

Modern, Mobile-First Design: With more than 60% of users on mobile, we built a layout that looks beautiful and functions perfectly on phones and tablets.

SEO Optimization: We implemented the basicsβ€”titles, meta descriptions, and alt textβ€”to help them rank on Google.

Strong Visual Identity: Soft colors, clean fonts, and curated photography helped create a vibe that matched their mission.

Built-In Blog: To support content marketing and future growth, we included a blog section that they could easily update themselves.

---

The Results: More Traffic, More Clients, More Confidence

In the first month after launch, Luna & Bloom saw:

A 230% increase in site traffic, largely thanks to improved SEO and a better user experience.

Double the client inquiries, with more people booking consultations directly from the site.

Increased time on page, meaning users were actually reading and engaging with the content.

Positive feedback from both new and existing clients who praised the professionalism and feel of the new site.

Most importantly, the founders said they finally felt proud of their online presence.

> β€œThe process was seamless. We finally feel proud to share our website! Clients have been commenting on how professional and inviting it feels. We couldn’t have done it without your team.”

Case Study: Building Acalavidyaraja.org Using the Gothic Shop Template

Acalavidyaraja.org is being developed as a major online hub for Buddhist wisdom, practice, and teachings, with a specific focus on Vajrayana Buddhism and the Drikung Kagyu lineage. Initially, when choosing a foundation for the site’s design, three templates were considered:

  1. Chinese Medicine Template – A polished and elegant design suitable for professional, clean presentations.

  2. Yoga Teacher Template – A serene and minimalistic layout tailored for individual practitioners or teachers.

  3. Gothic Shop Template – A bold, visually striking design with dark aesthetics and a unique feel.

Despite initial expectations that a more traditional Buddhist-friendly template (such as the Yoga Teacher or Chinese Medicine template) would be chosen, the Gothic Shop Template became the preferred choice. This decision reflects both practical and community-driven considerations.

Why the Gothic Shop Template?

At first glance, a Gothic-style template may seem like an unusual choice for a Buddhist website. However, several key reasons influenced this decision:

  1. Community Feedback & Appeal

    • When presented with the three options, the Buddhist community involved in the project overwhelmingly gravitated toward the Gothic Shop template.

    • It offered a unique and strong visual identity, breaking away from the common minimalist aesthetics seen in many Buddhist websites.

  2. Aesthetic & Thematic Fit

    • Vajrayana Buddhism, particularly in the Ngakpa and Drikung Kagyu traditions, has a mystical, powerful, and visually rich aesthetic.

    • The dark background and high-contrast typography of the Gothic Shop template aligns well with the mysticism, depth, and esoteric teachings of Vajrayana Buddhism.

    • Unlike standard Buddhist sites that often have a soft, pastel aesthetic, this choice stands out and draws in modern practitioners.

  3. Built-in Structure & Customization Potential

    • The Gothic Shop template already had several elements that suited Acalavidyaraja.org's needs:

      • Bold typography – Ideal for strong messaging and Dharma teachings.

      • Immersive background design – Suitable for showcasing Tibetan Buddhist imagery, deity representations, and powerful visual storytelling.

      • E-commerce readiness – Useful for future digital downloads, courses, and Buddhist products.

  4. Flexibility for a Closed Community Model

    • Acalavidyaraja.org is not just a blog, but a community space.

    • Features being integrated include:

      • Private membership sections

      • A closed Buddhist practitioner community

      • A Dharma blog

      • Future digital offerings

    • The Gothic Shop template’s e-commerce and membership-friendly structure made it easier to integrate these elements.

Planned Modifications & Features

While the Gothic Shop Template provided a strong starting point, several changes and additions are being made to align it with Acalavidyaraja.org's Buddhist mission:

  1. Theme Adjustments

    • Removing overt Gothic elements while maintaining the powerful, mysterious aesthetic that suits Vajrayana.

    • Integrating Tibetan-inspired visuals, Buddhist deities, and Vajrayana mandalas.

    • Adjusting color schemes to balance dark tones with gold, red, and blue accents.

  2. Community Features

    • A members-only section where practitioners can engage in deeper Buddhist studies.

    • Future forum and discussion areas for advanced Dharma discussions.

    • Integration with Substack for articles and teachings.

  3. Content Strategy

    • Blog & Teachings Section featuring:

      • General Buddhist teachings

      • Vajrayana and Drikung Kagyu lineage insights

      • Ngakpa practices

      • Interviews with Buddhist teachers

    • Courses & Learning Section – Implementing a video-based Dharma learning model.

  4. Future Features

    • A donations system supporting Buddhist projects and Cross Fire (charity for men).

    • E-commerce for digital and physical Buddhist items (e.g., sadhana PDFs, prayer beads, books).

A Unique Buddhist Digital Space

By choosing the Gothic Shop Template, Acalavidyaraja.org is breaking away from stereotypical Buddhist website designs, embracing a bolder, more immersive experience that matches the esoteric depth of Vajrayana Buddhism. The decision to go with a visually powerful template ensures that the website will stand out, engage modern practitioners, and create a distinct presence online.

This case study highlights how listening to community preferences and leveraging the strengths of an existing template can result in a unique and effective online presence. As Acalavidyaraja.org evolves, it will not only serve as an educational platform but also as a thriving community for serious Buddhist practitioners.
